What is GYROTONIC®

GYROTONIC®is a unique movement system designed to stimulate the nervous system, open up the body’s energy channels, and expand range of motion while improving muscular strength and movement efficiency.
It uses specialized, guided equipment that allows for smooth, flowing movements without joint compression—creating a pleasant sensation, as if the body were self-massaging in a natural and organic way.
Under the guidance of certified GYROTONIC® trainers, sessions aim to harmonize the mind, body, and brain while improving physical balance, flexibility, and core strength through tailored programs.

How Is This Program Different?
At our clinic, GYROTONIC® and GYROTONIC® are not simply fitness routines—they are carefully implemented as neurogenesis exercises for patients with dementia-related conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease.
These smooth, flowing movements are designed to enhance functional synaptic connectivity through coordinated muscle activity.
This approach offers promising support in improving cognitive function in patients suffering from neurodegenerative diseases.

Maki Shimo
Maki began working as a GYROTONIC® trainer at our clinic between 2015 and 2016, where she first met Dr. Takuji Shirasawa.
In October 2019, she officially rejoined our team to introduce GYROTONIC® and GYROTONIC® sessions for elderly patients.
Diagnosed with scoliosis during middle school, Maki struggled with chronic back and shoulder pain for many years.
This personal experience led her to explore natural healing therapies. Since 1998, she has pursued training in medical aromatherapy, sports massage, and nutritional therapy.
In 2013, she attended a session led by Master Trainer Mariko Miyauchi and was amazed at how dramatically GYROTONIC® helped ease her scoliosis symptoms—far more effectively than chiropractic or acupuncture. She has been dedicated to the method ever since.

Message from Maki Shimo:
GYROTONIC® has helped me reconnect with my own senses and inner awareness. In each session, we focus on relaxed breathing and joyful, mindful movement.
I hope to share this method with elderly patients, individuals with dementia, and those with physical challenges—including young people living with scoliosis.
Together with Dr. Shirasawa, we’re developing a new standard in therapeutic movement.”

To maintain cognitive health in later life, regular stimulation of the brain is essential—alongside preserving the physical function of the skeletal and muscular systems.

At our clinic, we integrate cytokine-based regenerative therapy for Alzheimer’s disease with dietary and exercise interventions.

Among these, GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® offer an ideal form of movement that supports both neurological stimulation and musculoskeletal maintenance for elderly patients.
